The Parent-Teacher-Association sponsors annually a
program called “The Reflection Program”. Every year there is a different theme
and the kids are encouraged to impress this theme in various categories. In the
2009/10 school year the theme was: “Beauty is…”. The different categories being:
visual arts, literature, musical composition, video, choreography, and
photography. From these categories a judge in school announces the winner (award
of excellence), and second place (award of merit) in four different age groups.
The primary division reaches from Kindergarten to second grade, the intermediate
division from 3rd to 5th grades, the middle/junior division from 6th to 8th
grades, and the senior division is for the high school participants. All entries
that win the school competition move on to the next level, the school district
Riverside county level. After judging there, the winners (award of excellence)
in the different categories proceed to the 23rd district level (about 260
schools). Winners of this level move further to the State competition. The
“Award of Excellence” winners from the State level (approx. 63,000 entries) move
on to the National competition.
Viola’s musical composition, “Sunrise”, made it to the State level where she got
an award of participation.
